2nd R&D-Product Development Metrics Summit

This Summit has already been held. Please visit our current Metrics Summit.

OVERVIEW

Research results indicate that only 1/3 of companies have a set of measures that they use to direct and monitor R&D activities. And, of these companies that do have a set of measures, many are not satisfied with certain of the measures they currently use. GGI's Metrics Summit helps you decide the best measures to choose, and how to assemble them into a practical useful set of measures for R&D as a whole.

The first two seminars get everyone thinking about "good metrics." The final seminar helps everyone to choose "right" metrics for their company and to assemble them into an integrated set of metrics. In the final seminar, teams assemble based on their company's strategy: Innovator, Innovator-Extender, Balanced, Extender. The right metrics depend on your company's strategy.

In the September 2005 Summit, the two Innovator Strategy teams developed metrics portfolios with 22 and 25 measures respectively across the four categories of metrics: Corporate, Project, Functional, and Improvement. Three Balanced Strategy teams developed portfolios with 21, 18, and 25 metrics respectively across the four categories. A sixth "team" presented metrics geared to Software-Only companies aimed at software functional productivity. The learnings and the outcomes of the December 2005 Metrics Summit are certain to be immediately useful to your company.

An integrated metrics program will result in greater speed in new product development, more profitable products, and improved performance of your research and development environment. What does such an integrated program entail?  Find out by attending Goldense Group, Inc.'s second Product Development Metrics Summit to be held December 6-8, 2005 in metro Boston.  The Metrics Summit is a series of 3 seminars, focused on 3 major areas of importance to R&D executives and managers.

The first seminar (Measuring Product Development II (MPDII) - December 6) addresses the subjects of setting hurdle rates, assessing risk and complexity, tradeoff analysis, measuring capacity, and assessing overall financial performance.  Click to view the MPDII abstract or to download the table of contents.

The second seminar (Proactive and Predictive R&D Metrics (PPRD) - December 7) focuses on three different stages of developing early, predictive metrics that will enable managers to foresee issues on the horizon or to know that success is in front of them.  Click to view the PPRD abstract or to download the table of contents.

The third seminar, a capstone, (Product Development Metrics Portfolios (PDMP) - December 8) is expressly for the purpose of developing a set of measures for the R&D organization as a whole, including the few measures that should be used by the corporation to measure R&D productivity, output, and overall performance results.  Click to view the PDMP abstract or to download the table of contents.

All three seminars are geared to top-level professionals that manage entire organizations, departments, budgets, and senior program management executives. An excellent approach would include two to four key staff members who could produce a result for the R&D organization as a whole.
