This article provides the latest information on R&D metrics used in industry. Results of GGI�s 2004 Product Development Metrics Survey are detailed, and trends are drawn from the prior three surveys (1998, 2000, and 2002). The top ten R&D metrics currently in use are listed and compared with prior surveys. The emergence of many more metrics generally �in use� over the past six years is explained. The survey results are analyzed in the context of R&D measurement as a whole, with implications for the future evolution of R&D performance measurement.
